Monday April 18th
Happy holy week, for those who keep track of those sorts of things. It's very definitely springtime in Alabama as the temperature varies from the 40s to the 80s, usually during the same day. You have to wear a sweater and long sleeves when you leave the house and you're sweating by midafternoon. Instability in the temperature means, of course, spring storms and straight line winds and tornadoes. Two bad ones last week. Our little aerie up on the top of the hill rides them out fine but there was a lot of damage in rural areas south and west of us. There was a lightning strike on a tree across the street Monday night which was a bit close for comfort.I actually got out and did yard work this weekend as it was one of the few weekends where it's climatologically possible without extreme discomfort. Usually it's either too cold, too wet or too humid. I made a good start at beating back the ivy bank that's been taking over everything. I will never be a yard person. Just not my thing.
Tommy had his Senior Recital a couple of weeks ago and it went well. He's leapt through nearly all of the hoops he needs to for his degrees. Finish up this semester, two summer school courses and student teaching and then he is done. And there was much rejoicing. We've both been busy singing in a couple of concerts as well - a lent service and a benefit for Japan.
The next project is Politically Incorrect Cabaret 2011: Enemy of the State which is taking on a lot of the nonsense that's been going on in various state houses over the last few months. Plays May 14th here in Birmingham with out of town dates later in the summer under discussion. Got to get my eight or nine costume changes organized...
Watched the premiere of 'Game of Thrones' last night with friends. Looks like HBO got it right. I love the books and highly recommend them. The fifth one is due out in July and will be my vacation reading this year. I have got to take some time off this summer sometime or I will be snapping at everyone.
